Abstract

We sought to determine the influence of stress on the academic performance of postgraduate students of the Faculty of Mining Engineering of the National University of Central Peru (UNCP), for this purpose a descriptive non-experimental cross-sectional study was designed, in a population of 133 students of Master’s and Doctorate of the second academic year 2021. A sample of 70 students was selected, who answered a stress and academic performance evaluation survey, both of which were designed with good validity and reliability indices. The results revealed that in the mental processes dimension, 34% of the students were moderately stressed, while 64% were severely stressed. For the emotional and behavioural indicators, 17% had moderate stress and 83% severe stress. In terms of academic performance, 30% of the students were found to perform well, 60% performed fairly well and 10% performed poorly. In sum, the findings suggest that stress influences the academic performance of postgraduate students in the Faculty of Mining Engineering at UNCP.
