VERIFICATION AND COMPARISON OF THE MARSHLL LERNER CONDITION IN PERU BETWEEN THE PERIODS 1980-1992 AND 1993-2003

Abstract

The most important exporter component of the Peruvian economiy is formed by the traditional exportation, among which the oustanding items are mainly the products from the mining, petroelum and agricultural and fishing derivates, and on the other side we can alsoobserve were a rapid and significative growth in the non traditional exportation products, the last ones wall let us energize somchow the Peruvian economy helping effectively to solve important problems from the country. Regarding the marshall lerner condition we can indicate that in the Peruvian case it strict accomplishment of this condition has not been observed both with the traditional and now traditional exportation, wich the exceptim that for the first ones in the first period, between the years 1985-1986 as well as for the second period, only betuveen the years 198 - 199 and 2002-2003 has been gotten a positive relationship as these ahoul be betoveen the real exchange rate and the exportation for the side of the importations, ifs, its been possible to demonstrate the aplication of such condition, showing in both periods of analisis an inverse behavior between the real exchange rate and the importations. Regarding the application of this Marshall Lerner condition, for Latin America, in the Brazilian cafe, we can say that the exportations keep a positive relationship with the exchange rate, where the importation at least in the period of 1994 to 2001 hard very strong positive relation with the exchange rate of market in this country.
