Abstract

Sepsis is one of the major causes of mortality worldwide and a triggering factor is bacteremia, which can be caused in injecting drug users due to poor hygiene or needle sharing. (1) Objective: The research sought to determine the type of bacteria in the blood of injecting drug users; (2) Methods: Blood was extracted from 5 users and the samples were taken to the laboratory, a blood culture was performed and bacteria were identified by Gram staining, catalase test and oxidase test; (3) Results: The presence of Neisseria meningitidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and Enterobacter spp. was obtained; (4) Conclusions: The importance of the presence of Neisseria meningitidis, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus mirabilis and Enterobacter spp in the blood of injectable consumers causing respiratory diseases and bacterial meningitis is highlighted.
