Risk factors associated with cervical cáncer in patients cared for at the Ramiro Priale National hospital 2019-2023

Abstract

Cervical Cancer (CACU) is one of the leading causes of mortality in women in different developing countries, including Peru. It is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the Human Papillomavirus. Given that there is sociocultural diversity in the country and therefore, risk factors must vary by region, this work was carried out, with the objective of determining whether the age of first sexual intercourse, the use of oral contraceptives, the age of majority 40 years, origin from the jungle and number of sexual partners were a risk factor. A retrospective type of work was carried out on cases (patients with CACU) and controls (Patients without CACU). The sample studied was 75 cases and 150 controls (randomly chosen). The information obtained was from the Pap smear requests that all patients responded to at the initial visits. It was found that the following are considered risk factors: having had more than 3 sexual partners (OR=1.909)(p=0.023), being over 40 years old (OR=7.765)(p<0.001) and coming from the jungle. (OR=4.984)(p=0.02).It is concluded that only age is an important risk factor and that the others are of weak association. The first sexual relationship or the use of oral contraceptives is not a risk factor to consider.
